Overview
Quiet Classes is an Android application developed by Joshua Nafziger. It uses your class schedule and, when enabled for a class, your device location to activate a Do Not Disturb mode. Quiet Classes does not require an account and does not operate a custom server that receives your schedule or location history.
Information stored on your device
The app stores the information you enter locally on your Android device, including class names or labels, days and times, location labels, addresses, coordinates, radii, DND choices, custom notification policies, and app settings. Runtime information such as whether a class rule is active and the media volume needed for a possible restoration is also stored locally.
Location information
For classes with location checking enabled, Quiet Classes may use precise foreground and background location. Android and Google Play services use the saved coordinates and radius to provide geofence events. Quiet Classes evaluates whether the current location matches a scheduled class; it does not create a location-history account or transmit that history to the developer.
Address search may use the geocoding provider available through Android. The optional map picker loads Leaflet resources from unpkg and map tiles from OpenStreetMap. Those providers may receive standard network information such as your IP address, browser-like request details, and the geographic area needed to return the requested map tiles. Their handling of that information is governed by their own policies.
Android permissions and device controls
Depending on the features you use, Quiet Classes may request precise and background location, Do Not Disturb policy access, alarms and reminders access, notification permission, boot-completed delivery, internet access for the map, and audio-settings access. Audio-settings access is used to temporarily mute media when a class activates and restore the prior level only when the app can determine that the user did not override it.
Backups and sharing
The export feature creates a JSON file only after you request it and choose a destination through Android's document picker. The file can contain class schedules and precise saved coordinates. You control where it is stored and how it is shared. Quiet Classes cannot control a backup after you give it to another app, storage provider, or person.
Analytics, advertising, and sales
Quiet Classes does not include advertising, analytics, cross-app tracking, or a system for selling personal information. Links to GitHub, Buy Me a Coffee, and other external sites open outside the app and are subject to those services' own privacy practices.
Retention and deletion
Class data remains on the device until you delete it, import a replacement backup, clear the app's storage, or uninstall the app. Exported backup files must be deleted separately from wherever you saved them.
Children's privacy
Quiet Classes is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children through a developer-operated service.
Changes and contact
This policy may be updated when the app's behavior changes. The effective date above identifies the current version. Questions or privacy requests can be submitted through the Quiet Classes GitHub issue tracker.
